Mitchell on Biletnikoff List

Share

Junior Freddie Mitchell was named one of 10 candidates for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the top receiver in college football. The nominees include five seniors, two juniors and three sophomores, with Mitchell the only Pac-10 player among the group. Stanford’s Troy Walters won last year.

“I’d like to win this one for the Pac-10,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell is on pace for 1,304 receiving yards, which would break the school record of 1,274 set by Danny Farmer in 1998. Mitchell insisted he would return for his senior season even if he won the award.

Said Mitchell: “Can you win the award two years in a row?”

Linebacker Robert Thomas said he would start Saturday against Arizona despite an ankle injury that limits his mobility. . . . With Rusty Williams hampered because of shoulder and foot injuries, Stephen Sua could make his first start at defensive end. Dave Ball will start at the other defensive end position, and twin Mat will play as much as his broken right hand allows. . . . Fullback Matt Stanley (shoulder) and tailback Jermaine Lewis (ankle) will not make the trip.
