Developer’s Revision Calls for 250 Homes

Share

A Moorpark developer wants to revise a 9-year-old plan for homes on the north end of the city, that would almost quadruple the number of houses built.

In 1991, Moorpark officials approved a plan for 66 estate, ranch-style homes on Walnut Canyon Road, with each lot being at least five acres.

Now West Pointe Homes wants city officials to approve a plan for 250 single-family homes on quarter-acre lots.

Officials estimate the proposed 250 homes, to be built near Walnut Canyon Elementary School, will add about 170 students to local schools when they are already at or near capacity, according to the proposed development’s environmental impact report.

The report officially opened the period of public review and discussion of the project, which will be reviewed by planning commissioners Sept. 11.

The new project clusters the homes, leaving 250 acres of protected open space, said Vince Daly, community developer for the company.

City officials said they had a variety of concerns about the project, which will be reviewed in upcoming weeks.
