COUNTDOWN TO OLYMPICS

* Days until opening ceremony: 14.

* Olympic update: Police forensic teams were investigating a suspected bomb that was removed from a passenger train in Sydney. Police Commissioner Peter Ryan, who is in charge of Olympic security, said the package looked elaborate and “quite capable of exploding.”

* March to the medals: Two-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong is recovering at home with bruises after a collision with a car while training in France. The Texan plans to fly to Australia in mid-September for the road race and time trial at the Sydney Games.

* Carrying the torch: Memorial ceremonies were held for Ron King, the 74-year-old torchbearer who died of a suspected heart attack Thursday. Relay continued to head west from Tamworth to Dubbo.

* Olympic footnote: Olympic security officers locked down main Olympic precinct at Homebush Bay, including stadiums, media center and Athlete’s Village. Only accredited people will be permitted to enter the precinct, after rigorous security checks, from now until after the Paralympics on Oct. 29.
