Sardinha, Reds Agree to Contract
Catcher Dane Sardinha of Pepperdine signed Friday with the Cincinnati Reds. The deal guarantees him $1.95 million and could be worth as much as $2.4 million over six years.
Sardinha, a second-round draft pick of the Reds in June, received no signing bonus but will begin being paid immediately under terms of his contract.
Sardinha’s agent, Scott Boras, called the contract, “a creative way to get things done in today’s complicated times.” Sardinha must remain in the major leagues beginning in 2003 or risk being placed on waivers.
