Cabbie Missing Since Monday Sought
Fullerton police are searching for a cabdriver who has been missing for nearly a week.
William Davis Washington, 49, checked out a taxi from his employer, Orange County Yellow Cab Co. in Fullerton, about 5 a.m. Monday, police said.
He was on his way to pick up a group of senior citizens in Long Beach and drop them off at a care facility.
But he never got there, instead calling a company dispatcher about 7:30 a.m. to say he had run out of gas.
When another driver was dispatched to his location--the intersection of Wardlow Road and Magnolia Avenue in Long Beach--Washington and the car were missing.
“We’ve sent out cabs every morning looking for him, but so far, no luck,” said Jane Fowler, a dispatcher.
Washington, who had started with the company four weeks ago, was a reserved man who lived in Bellflower, co-workers said.
He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved shirt and tan pants.
The cab is a 1990 Ford Crown Victoria, plate No. 5Y92659.
It has “No. 35” on the rear and front fenders and a “Yellow Cab” sticker on each side.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Fullerton Police Department at (714) 738-6715.
