OUTLOOK

Only Canoga Park had an overall record above .500 last year and the Hunters are rebuilding. So is North Hollywood, which tied Canoga Park for the title. Poly has the most talent and Grant returns several skill-position starters. Verdugo Hills and Hollywood must look for upsets.

SCOUTING REPORT

POLY

Lee Jackson and Bobby Mesa, 4 years

* Coming back: QB-DB Zachary Sims was All-City on defense. He must deliver on offense as well. WR Alex Green and TE Alex Diaz give Sims seasoned targets and OL-DLs Henry Renteria and Rosario Ramirez will provide protection. Checking in: TE-DL Carlos Gonzalez, a junior, will start two ways. OL-DLs Russell Theodore and Chris Moskovian bolster the line. RB-DB Marlin Goode will get plenty of carries.

*

GRANT

Bill Foster, 16 years

* Coming back: QB Alfonso Estrada will throw even more than the 208 passes he threw last year. RB-DB Perry Clayton is elusive. TE-LB Carlos Mendez and WR-DBs Eric Szubota and Nick Isaak are experienced receivers. Four starters return on the offensive line and six starters return on defense. Checking in: Several juniors could make an impact at the skill positions, including DB Julis Roberts and RB Hector Bernal.

CANOGA PARK

Rudy Lugo, 16 years

* Coming back: Brian Spangle moves from receiver to replace his brother, Mike, at QB. WR-DBs Tony Olivera and Chris Lugo were all-league picks last year. TE-DE D’Andre Shelton and TE-DB Israel Perez bring experience to the receiving ranks. OT-DTs Matt Crawford and Jose Lopez are back. Checking in: QB Jeremy Egan is battling Spangle, who can play RB. Josh Geiger could step in at RB.

*

NORTH HOLLYWOOD

Brad Ratcliff, 1 year

* Coming back: RB Matthew Hicks and his 35 carries a game are gone. Ratcliff believes in the passing game and QB-LB Derick Brill will oblige. RB Pablo Ramos (5-4, 134) is quick and FB Chris Berroud is strong. LB corps is excellent with Victor Valdovinos, Bryant Barrientos and Brill. OT-DTs Jose Perez and Julio Granados move people. Checking in: WR-DB Steve Porter, TE-LB Alfredo Patino and OL-DL Gus Aguirre should step into starting positions.

*

VERDUGO HILLS

Darren Fitzgerald, 1 year

* Coming back: The Dons return only three starters on each side of the ball. Michael Tabarez LB-C might be the best. QB Michael Tinker, a junior, took over the position midway through last season. RB-LB Neil Gossard and WR-DB Bryce Kirk are solid. Checking in: RBs Michael Cloud and Billy Parra could make an impact. WRs Donte Carney, a junior, and DeAngelo Ramsey, a sophomore, are fast.

*

HOLLYWOOD

Tim Lenderman, 4 years

* Coming back: Fleet QB Trevor Brackett returns to a team that was winless last season.
