Molnar Keeps Wizards on Top, 1-0

Miklos Molnar scored 10 minutes into the game and Tony Meola recorded his 15th shutout as the Kansas City Wizards defeated the Tampa Bay Mutiny, 1-0, Saturday night in front of 20,078 at Kansas City, Mo., in a game between division leaders.

Molnar, who has been nursing a sore left knee, scored off assists from Matt McKeon and Chris Brown.

Meola had to stop only one shot on goal, taken by league scoring leader Mamadou Diallo. Kansas City leads the MLS with 16 shutouts and has given up only 27 goals.

Diallo has 26 goals, one short of the 1997 league record.

Tampa Bay leads the MLS with 60 goals.

The Wizards (15-7-8), who lead the Western Division, have a league-best 53 points with two games remaining. Tampa Bay (16-12-3) leads the Central with 51 points.

Miami 4, New York-New Jersey 1--Diego Serna’s team-record four goals at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in front of 7,415 helped keep the Fusion’s playoff hopes alive.

Serna scored twice in the last two minutes of the first half, and added two second-half goals.

Miami (11-14-5) is tied with Columbus for ninth place with 38 points. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs. Dallas and Colorado are tied for seventh with 40 points.
