Tot Stable After Dad Runs Over Her

A 2-year-old girl was in serious but stable condition late Monday after her father accidentally ran over her head in the driveway of their Fullerton home, police said.

Jasmine Mellado followed her father, Eucario, 46, outside about 12:30 p.m. as he was preparing to leave his house on South Richman Avenue, police said.

As Mellado backed out of the driveway in his Toyota Camry, he noticed the toddler on the ground near the front of the car, police said.

“The right rear tire ran over a portion of her head,” Fullerton Police Sgt. Neal Baldwin said. “She was crying and looking around when the paramedics were working on her.”

The girl was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange.

“Her dad just thought she’d gone back inside to her mom before he started to leave,” Lt. Danny Becerra said. “She is one lucky girl. Her injuries are not life-threatening.”
