* Lynn Miller Boren, 62; Retired Teacher

Oak Park resident Lynn Miller Boren died Monday at a local hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 62.

Boren was born Nov. 22, 1937, in American Fork, Utah. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Utah State University.

Boren took several graduate courses in education at George Washington University before joining the Army as a teacher in El Paso, Texas.

In the mid-1960s, Boren moved to California to teach at the Mariann Frostig Center of Educational Therapy in Pasadena.

According to his wife, Mihaela Marian, Boren dedicated his career to helping physically and mentally challenged youth at the center. Boren taught social sciences and math.

“He was really passionate about helping them build the skills to survive,” Marian said.

Boren left the center in 1986 after 20 years. He worked from 1987 to 1991 as a marketing researcher at Long Beach Bank before retiring.

In addition to helping children, Boren donated time and money to the Humane Society, Guide Dogs of America and several schools for Native American children with disabilities.

Boren enjoyed traveling and classical music.

Boren is survived by his wife, who lives in Oak Park; a son, Barry Boren of Seattle; a brother, Donald Boren of Sandy, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral and burial are planned for Saturday in Provo, Utah.

Arrangements were being handled by Pierce Bros., Valley Oaks Mortuary.
