T.J. Hill, fourth in the NCAA wrestling championships last season at 125 pounds as a freshman at Cal State Fullerton, is academically ineligible to compete for the Titans this season, Coach Ardeshir Asgari said Wednesday.

Asgari said Hill has enrolled at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., and will need to pass 24 units with a 2.0 grade-point average this year to regain his eligibility.

Asgari said senior Brian Gilliland will take over at 125 pounds.

FOOTBALL

Bernard Fano, the top returning football player at Fountain Valley and a two-way starter, might be out for the season, Coach Eric Johnson said Wednesday.

Fano (6-3, 255) has a bulging disk in his neck that will prevent him from playing tight end and defensive end for the Barons, Johnson said.

“I just don’t know,” Johnson said of a possible return by Fano, who suffered the injury in the Barons’ 24-18 victory over Dana Hills. “I’m looking at it as though the glass is half-empty.”
