Red Cross Offers First Aid Courses

The American Red Cross’ Ventura County chapter will offer training courses in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency response starting Oct. 2.

The courses are for child care providers, those interested in becoming volunteer Red Cross instructors and professional rescue workers.

The first class, instructor candidate training, will run noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 2 as a prerequisite class for potential trainers. Participants can then take a training class in first aid and CPR starting at 1 p.m. Oct. 9 and running for four consecutive Mondays from 1 to 5 p.m. Cost is $100, which includes both classes.

Child care providers can learn infant and child CPR in a 6 to 10 p.m. class running on four Thursdays beginning Oct. 5. A second class will be held 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21-22. This course, which also covers pediatric first aid and health and safety training, costs $70.

The professional rescuer course will cover how to respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies, rescue breathing and CPR. It will be offered twice: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Red Cross’ Simi Valley Service Center, 1919 Williams St., No. 200, Simi Valley, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Red Cross chapter’s main office, 2355 Portola Road, Ventura. Cost is $48.
