The Fighting Irish later got a 29-yard field goal late in the first half to cap a 54-yard drive to make it 17-7 at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to McKnight, who returned a punt 39 yards for a touchdown and later scored on a 71-yard pass from quarterback Jeff Etherson to make the score 31-7. McKnight finished with eight catches for 158 yards. Etherson was 12 of 23 for 184 yards and one interception.

The Colonists got the only score of the fourth quarter when Paterson connected with William Safotu on a four-yard touchdown pass, the two-point conversion failing.

The game was then called with 2:15 left on the clock when Anaheim senior running back Eli Magana suffered a compound leg fracture on the two-point attempt. Magana remained on the ground near the end zone for about 10 minutes as he was attended to before the game was called.
