American Financial Services A free seminar for first-time home buyers conducted by Pasadena- based mortgage provider American Financial Services. Presenters will discuss financing programs for first-time buyers, the tax benefits of homeownership and the steps involved in buying a home. Reservations are required.

UCLA Extension An introduction to the state’s Subdivision Map Act, one of California’s most powerful land-use laws. The seminar looks at the act’s provisions and reviews other laws that govern land subdivision, development and construction in the state. Instructors will discuss the responsibilities and powers of local governments and project applicants. The course counts for six hours of credit.
