Bozeman Says Yes to UCLA

Mater Dei point guard Cedric Bozeman, The Times’ Orange County player of the year last season, committed to UCLA Monday for the second time in a year.

Bozeman, who averaged 13.7 points and 6.4 assists last season while leading the Monarchs to the Southern California regional championship game, had committed to the Bruins in September 1999 only to reassess his options.

The 6-foot-5 standout also considered Florida and Kansas but had not taken official visits to either school.

Bozeman said he picked UCLA because he could stay close to home and play “in front of everybody I know.” He also liked the school’s tradition and had developed a close relationship with Coach Steve Lavin.

“I just felt comfortable around him,” Bozeman said.

* Spencer Gloger, a 6-6 sophomore swingman, has left Princeton and returned home to Rancho Santa Margarita with the intention of transferring to UCLA, his mother told the Trenton (N.J.) Times. Gloger, who averaged 12 points last year for the Tigers, graduated from Santa Margarita.
