Goalie Guy Hebert, out since Sept. 13 with a groin injury, will make his first start of the exhibition season tonight when the Mighty Ducks play the Kings at the Arrowhead Pond at 7:30.

“I’ve been chomping at the bit watching these guys play,” said Hebert, 33. “I have had a couple good practices and I’m ready to go. It felt good out there today. We’re at the point where I need to start getting ready.”

Hebert was bothered by nagging injuries and had a sub-par season in 1999-2000. His goals-against average rose to 2.51 while his save percentage slipped to .908.

“I wasn’t happy with last season at all,” Hebert said. “During the summer, I would pull out some of the game tapes and watch. I couldn’t wait to get back here and get started.”

That was delayed by the groin injury. He will get most of the starts during the final four exhibition games.

“We have to play to build him up,” Coach Craig Hartsburg said. “That’s good for the team and good for Guy.”

Defenseman Pascal Trepanier, who has been nursing a sore knee injured in an intrasquad scrimmage on Sept. 12, will also start.

Meanwhile, defenseman Ruslan Salei (strained hip) pulled a double shift Thursday, working out with the morning and afternoon groups. He will make his exhibition debut Sunday, when the Ducks play San Jose.
