Wongluekiet, 14, Shares First-Round Lead
Dottie Pepper and 14-year-old Aree Wongluekiet shot three-under-par 69s in windy conditions Friday to share the lead in the LPGA Safeway Golf Championship at Portland, Ore.
Wongluekiet, the Thai star who lives in Bradenton, Fla., used her final exemption of the year to play in the tournament. She repeatedly credited her caddie, Tom Hanson, for her good play.
“I pretty much just hit it where my caddie said to hit it,” she said.

Loren Roberts shot a three-under-par 67 in the second round of the PGA’s Texas Open at San Antonio to take a one-stroke lead over Keb Mattiace and Justin Leonard in the Texas Open.

Bill Brask shot an eight-under-par 64 to take a one-shot lead in the first-round lead in the Bank One Senior Championship at Dallas. . . . Jesper Parnevik will have arthroscopic hip surgery today and miss at least the next six weeks.
