Matadors to Stand Bye As Others Play

Cal State Northridge, Montana and Portland State have byes, leaving only four games today involving Big Sky Conference teams.

Eastern Washington (2-1, 1-0) at Weber State (2-1, 1-0)

The home team has won the last four games in a series Weber State leads, 10-8. The Wildcats are 7-3 against Eastern Washington at home. The Eagles lead the Big Sky in defense, Weber State is second. Troy Griggs of Eastern Washington was the Big Sky special teams player of the week after making five point-after-touchdowns and a 23-yard field goal against Idaho State.

Cal State Sacramento (2-1, 0-1) at Idaho State (1-1, 0-1)

Sacramento’s Charles Roberts rushed for an NCAA-record 409 yards against Idaho State last season at home. But the Bengal defense has improved and will be motivated in the cramped indoor confines of 12,000-seat Holt Arena, which has artificial turf. Ironically, Roberts needs 409 yards to become the first NCAA back to top the 1,000-yard plateau in four games. Roberts tied a record last year by reaching 1,000 in five games. Sacramento leads the Big Sky in rushing, averaging 283 yards. The Hornets led Portland State for nearly three quarters before losing, 35-23.

NONCONFERENCE

Northern Arizona (2-0) at New Mexico (1-3)

Northern Arizona, which won at Northridge, 49-26, last week, have lost 18 in a row against the Lobos, including a 45-14 drubbing last season.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (0-2) at Montana State (0-2)

San Luis Obispo was blasted by Montana, 53-3, last week. The Mustangs defeated Montana State, 40-37, last season.
