Riordan Picks Activist for Post on Harbor Board

Share

Attempting to fill a disputed seat on the Board of Harbor Commissioners, Mayor Richard Riordan on Tuesday nominated San Pedro businessman John C. Wentworth to the vacant post.

Wentworth, who is a community activist and former city taxicab commissioner, founded Wentworth Co. Inc., a San Pedro-based management recruitment firm. He has served on the board of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce and once chaired the Harbor Area Economic Development and Tourism Task Force.

If confirmed by the City Council, Wentworth will fill a seat formerly held by attorney Ted Stein, who was fired by the mayor earlier this year. Riordan initially nominated Rick J. Caruso, a Westside developer, to replace Stein, but the council rejected him.
