Dredging Project Slated for Beaches

Share

A federal beach replenishment project will mean that beaches in Oxnard and Port Hueneme will grow over the next three months.

Starting Oct. 6, workers will dredge the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor and move about 1.2 million cubic yards of sand to area beaches.

Up to 300,000 cubic yards of sand will be deposited on Silver Strand Beach, while the rest will go to Port Hueneme and beaches south.

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers will supervise the work done on the $10-million project by Manson Construction of Seattle, project manager Frank Bechtolt said. The contract calls for three dredgings over the next six years.
