Amwest Insurance Promotes Executives Shonka, Huff

* Amwest Insurance Group has promoted Jeffrey A. Shonka to president and chief operating officer and Phillip E. Huff to executive vice president and chief financial officer. Shonka, 38, has been with Amwest for almost 13 years and has served in a number of senior management positions; Huff, 39, joined the company in 1987 and has held a variety of positions including controller, treasurer and, most recently, senior vice president of finance. Calabasas-based Amwest is an insurance holding company underwriting surety insurance through two subsidiaries.

U.S. Trust--An item in Tuesday’s Business section misstated the appointment of U.S. Trust executive Diane Song. She was named vice president and human resources generalist.

U.S. Trust announced several recent appointments in its Los Angeles office: Charles Schwab executive Diane Song was named vice president and chief executive; Nancy Katayama, a former Ernst & Young consultant, was named vice president, senior financial planner; Mary Yablonsky, of the private bank’s New York office, was named vice president, senior sales officer; and Bank of America investment officer Joseph Duffy was named managing director and senior portfolio manager.

Johannes Worsoe has been named senior vice president and manager of global markets, trading and sales, for Union Bank of California’s Los Angeles office. He previously spent six years at Imperial Bank, where he managed the international financial services division.

The bank also promoted Thomas J. Branch to senior vice president with the community banking and investment services group in Los Angeles.
