Titans Top Sacramento, Extend Baseball Win Streak to 12

Ninth-ranked Cal State Fullerton extended its winning streak to 12 games by beating Sacramento State, 8-2, in a Big West Conference baseball game Saturday at Sacramento. The victory was Titan Coach George Horton’s 200th in Division I.

Right fielder Jason Corapci was four for four with four RBIs and hit his first home run as the Titans had 11 hits and seven walks. Shortstop Mike Rouse hit his fourth homer and Chris Stringfellow had two hits.

Jon Smith (7-0) gave up four hits, struck out five and walked three in seven innings. Charlie Zahari and Wes Littleton each pitched an inning of hitless relief.

Aaron Rifkin’s sacrifice fly scored David Bacani in the first inning, and Fullerton scored three in the third on Corapci’s two-run homer and Stringfellow’s RBI double.

Sacramento scored on Smith’s wild pitch to pull within 4-2, but the first-place Titans (26-10, 6-0) added four insurance runs over the next three innings.

Sacramento is 17-22, 1-5.

In Big West Conference softball:

Pacific 7, Cal State Fullerton 1--Held scoreless in two previous losses to Fullerton, the 18th-ranked Tigers (38-9, 9-3) hit three home runs and ended the host Titans’ eight-game winning streak and eight-game shutout streak.

Fullerton’s Jodie Cox (15-6) gave up four earned runs in 2 1/3 innings in losing for the first time in five starts.

Reliever Christy Robitaille singled home the run for the first-place Titans (30-11, 11-1).

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Pepperdine 6, UC Irvine 1--Chris Ma won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3, for the visiting Anteaters (9-10). Pepperdine is 12-5.

In the Long Beach State women’s water polo tournament:

UC Irvine 12, Pomona-Pitzer 10--Erica Horman scored five goals for Irvine (3-21), which lost two other games, to UC Santa Barbara, 9-5, and Hawaii, 10-5.
