The Times takes a position-by-position look at the top college prospects and veteran free agents still available:

TOP FULLBACKS/TIGHT ENDS

Todd Heap, Arizona State, TE, 6-5, 235--If you were to design the perfect tight end for the West Coast offense, it would be Heap. His size, footwork and deep-threat potential make him a sure first rounder.

Alge Crumpler, TE, North Carolina, 6-2, 264--Combines sure hands with great open-field running ability. A much better blocker than Heap, has had some knee problems in the past.

Dan Alexander, Nebraska, FB, 6-0, 257--A tailback in fullback’s clothing, ran a blazing 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the combine. Terrific character, very active in the community as well as the weight room.

Ja’Mar Toombs, Texas A&M;, FB, 6-0, 282--Punishing runner reminds some scouts of Earl Campbell. Keeping him in shape may be a monumental task, as he has rapidly eaten himself down the draft board.

Jabari Holloway, TE, Notre Dame, 6-3, 255--An unknown quantity only ranked this high because of his vast potential. Questions have been raised regarding his work ethic and desire. Has all the physical tools.

BEST OF REST

Arthur Love, South Carolina State, TE, 6-4, 242--Complete receiver. Tony Stewart, Penn State, TE, 6-4, 256--Huge potential. Moran Norris, FB, 6-1, 240--Punishing ball carrier. Heath Evans, Auburn, FB, 6-0, 238--Good safety valve. Brandon Manumaluena, Arizona, TE, 6-1, 279--Could be an NFL FB.

SLEEPERS

Matt Kaplinski, FB, Maryland, 6-1, 226--Smart, hard worker. Brian Natkin, Texas El Paso, TE, 6-2, 238--Fine receiver.

VETERAN FREE AGENTS

Sam Gash, FB (BAL); Jeff Thomason, TE (PHI); John Allred, TE (CHI); Troy Drayton, TE (KC); Pete Mitchell, TE (NYG); Lorenzo Neal, FB (TEN).
