A Good Night for JetHawks

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Pitcher Andrew Good of the Lancaster JetHawks had his best performance of the season on a night he didn’t have to.

Helped by an offense that set a season-high with 23 hits, Good allowed three hits and three runs in six innings as the JetHawks snapped a two-game losing streak with a 17-5 victory over Visalia on Friday night at the Hangar.

Good (2-0), a right-hander, missed last season after undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery.

Against the Oaks (6-8), Good retired 14 of the first 16 batters.

Visalia got to Good in the sixth inning, scoring three runs. Omar Rosario hit a two-run home run down the right-field line.

As well as Good pitched, the JetHawks’ offense was even better.

Lancaster (10-6) scored at least one run in every inning and hit four home runs.

The middle of the order went 10 for 16 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in.

Catcher J.D. Closser had three hits and his fifth home run of the season. First baseman Ryan Jones had four hits, including his third and fourth home runs. Left fielder Kevan Burns had three hits.

Jones’ first home run was a three-run shot in the JetHawks’ five-run fourth inning, when Lancaster took a 10-0 lead.

He added a solo home run in the seventh inning to become the second Lancaster player to hit two home runs in as many nights.

Burns homered twice Thursday against High Desert.

Jones had a chance in the eighth inning to become the first JetHawk to hit three home runs in a game in franchise history, but he flied out to deep center field.

Martin and Closser are tied for the team lead with five home runs. Martin hit a solo home run in the eighth.

Carlos Urquiola, Lancaster’s left fielder, was promoted to Double-A El Paso. Urquiola hit .328 for the JetHawks in 14 games and had a 13-game hitting streak snapped Thursday.

To fill the roster spot, the JetHawks activated catcher John Melton from the disabled list. He served as the designated hitter Friday and hit a run-scoring double in the third inning.

Second baseman Matt Kata had four hits and scored three runs for Lancaster.
