A 17-year-old North Hollywood boy was killed early Sunday in a drive-by shooting outside a party in Winnetka, police said.

Mark Johnni Germany was attending a large party at a single-family house in the 19700 block of Saticoy Street about 12:30 a.m. when someone in a small white car began shooting a small-caliber pistol at the revelers, police said.

Germany was shot once in the torso while fleeing from the car. Police said it was unlikely he had been singled out.

“It sounds like, through witnesses, that the suspects did not know the victim,” said Det. Rick Swanston of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Division.

A friend drove Germany to a pay phone several blocks away and called 911.

Police found Germany bleeding in the back seat of the car and he was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m.

There were no arrests, but police said the assailants may have been gang members.

“There were a few members of gangs present at the party and we believe some gang slogans were shouted by the suspects,” Swanston said. About 100 people, most teenagers, attended the party, he said.
