First American Doubles Profit

First American Corp., a Santa Ana provider of business information and related products and services, said net income for the second quarter more than doubled to $54.5 million, or 75 cents a share, from $25 million, or 38 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue increased 20% to $928 million.

Other Orange County companies reporting earnings:

* American National Financial Inc., an Orange-based provider of real estate services, said net income rose to $3.4 million, or 41 cents a share, from $643,000, or 8 cents a share, for the second quarter of 2000. Revenue advanced 69% to $35.3 million.

* Epicor Software Corp. in Irvine said net income for the second quarter totaled $554,000, or 1 cent a share, contrasted with a year-earlier net loss of $8.8 million, or 21 cents a share. Revenue declined 20% to $46.3 million.

* Acme Communications Inc., Santa Ana owner and operator of 10 television stations affiliated with the WB Television Network, reported that its second-quarter net loss widened to $6.3 million, or 37 cents a share, from $4.2 million, or 25 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was down 2% to $18.9 million.

* Metalclad Corp., a Newport Beach waste management company, posted second-quarter net income of $19,000, contrasted with a net loss of $410,122, or 8 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue increased 38% to $11.2 million.
