Mark Mulder pitched 7 1/3 strong innings to win his sixth consecutive decision, and slumping Frank Menechino drove in two runs Tuesday night to lift the Oakland Athletics to a 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Oakland.

Mulder (14-6) gave up four hits and two runs in a shaky third inning, but he otherwise stifled the Red Sox. He gave up six hits, struck out five and walked none.

Mulder retired the final 12 batters he faced.

Although Mulder had thrown only 93 pitches, Manager Art Howe removed him with one out and nobody on base in the eighth. Reliever Jeff Tam then gave up singles to Mike Lansing and Trot Nixon, but he retired Manny Ramirez on a called third strike to end the inning.
