Cook, Al-Agba Lose Singles Semifinals

Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks and Jamil Al-Agba of Camarillo lost semifinal matches at the U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Hard Court Championships on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Cook, seeded 10th, lost, 6-4, 6-2, in boys’ 18s to No. 2-seeded Brian Baker of Nashville, the top-ranked junior player in the nation, according to the USTA.

Al-Agba, seeded 13th, lost, 6-1, 6-4, to third-seeded James Wan of Woodbury, N.Y., in boys’ 16s.

The 14th-seeded team of Philip Sheng of Thousand Oaks and Brent D’Amico of Aurora, Colo., won the boys’ 18 third-place doubles match with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 victory over 16th-seeded Jordan Dolberg of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Todd Widom of Coral Springs, Fla.

In the USTA Girls’ 16 Super National Hard Court Championships in San Diego, Frances Deason of Houston outlasted Riza Zalameda of Los Angeles, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (4), in a semifinal.

Zalameda and Anne Yelsey of Corona del Mar defeated Deason and Jenna Long of Fremont, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to today’s doubles final.
