The “New World Flamenco Festival” at the Irvine Barclay Theatre concludes this weekend with two performances by Compania Belen Maya from Madrid, Spain. The seven-member troupe--four dancers (three women, one man) and three musicians--will present “Adir” (Heritage), a series of works that pay homage to the dancers’ teachers.

Maya is the daughter of Carmen Mora and Mario Maya, famous flamenco performers. In 1996, she formed her own company of seven women. Two years ago, she reorganized the troupe to incorporate a male dancer.* Compania Belen Maya, Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine. 8 p.m. Also Saturday, 8 p.m. $24 to $35. Arthur Miller has written that he heard the story of “A View from the Bridge,” about the tragic fall of Brooklyn dock worker Eddie Carbone, from a New York waterfront worker who had known the real-life Eddie. “I had never thought to make a play of it because it was too complete. There was nothing I could add,” Miller said. But he changed his mind and in 1955 wrote the play, hoping to discover the real meaning of this tale that had haunted him. Carbone’s deeply buried sexual longing for Catherine, the niece he has helped raise from infancy, sets him up for his fall. When she begins dating a new arrival from Italy, the play’s action moves ahead.* “A View from the Bridge,” Vanguard Theatre Ensemble, 699-A S. State College Blvd., Fullerton, in the College Business Park. Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m., Sundays, 5 p.m. Ends Sept. 15. $13 to $17. (714) 526-8007.

The original Broadway run of “Pippin” started in 1972 and lasted for nearly 2,000 performances. The musical, with songs by Stephen Schwartz and direction and choreography by Bob Fosse, launched Ben Vereen to stardom. The story concerns the self-searching of Pippin, son of a medieval ruler, who tries out various paths of life, including warrior, lover, king and family man, in a quest for meaning. One of its ballads, “Corner of the Sky,” became a pop hit in a remake by the Jackson 5, replicating the Broadway-to-Top 40 success Schwartz had enjoyed with “Day By Day” from his earlier show, “Godspell.”* “Pippin,” Chance Theater, 5576 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim Hills. Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m., Sundays, 2 p.m. Ends Sept. 16. $15 to $18. (714) 821-6903 or www.chancetheater.com
