What: “The Definitive Guide to Fishing in Southern California”

Author: Chris Shaffer

Price: $24.95

So you think you know the best fishing spots in Southern California? Check out Chris Shaffer’s informative, easy-to-read guide.

He spent four years traveling to streams, rivers and lakes, compiling information and insights that will benefit beginners and veteran fishermen. There are 135 fishing spots evaluated in the 282-page book, divided into 17 regions, from the Santa Barbara foothills to the San Bernardino mountains, from San Diego to the Salton Sea.

Most impressive is how simple it is to look up a spot, find out what kind of fish are stocked and receive directions about how to get there. There are color photos and suggestions for ways to catch fish at the locations.

The book provides information about well-known fishing spots such as Pyramid Lake and Crystal Lake, plus tips on hidden spots such as the All-American River on the Mexican border--which is filled with striper, bass and catfish--and Bear Creek in Big Bear, known for its brown trout.

“If you can’t catch fish after reading this book, you have a problem,” Shaffer said.
