United Airlines announced Monday that it will begin daily nonstop service between John Wayne Airport and Washington’s Dulles International Airport.

Beginning Oct. 31, the Chicago-based airline will offer the only nonstop flights between John Wayne and Dulles.

Yolanda Perez, a spokeswoman for the airport, said the new flight will enhance the facility’s national stature. “The nation’s capital is a welcome addition to [John Wayne’s] list of nonstop destinations,” she said.

Flight 237 will depart from Dulles at 9:15 a.m. daily and arrive in Orange County at 11:50 a.m. Flight 198 will leave John Wayne at 1 p.m. and arrive in Washington at 8:35 p.m., airline officials said.

The flights on an Airbus A320, which seats about 140 people, will take about 4 1/2 hours.

The new flight will be one of 11 daily that United operates between Dulles and Southern California. It already has seven daily flights to Los Angeles International Airport and three flights to San Diego.

“With this expanded offering, United travelers will have added flexibility and choice,” said Chris Bowers, United Airlines senior vice president-North America.
