The boys from Red Bank are off to Hollywood to stop an evil movie studio from making a movie based on their comic-book alter egos in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” Kevin Smith’s final installment (or so he claims) in his New Jersey chronicles. Smith writes, directs and stars as Silent Bob, opposite Jason Mewes’ Jay and a long list of characters from “Clerks,” “Mallrats” and “Chasing Amy.”* “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” rated R for nonstop crude and sexual humor, pervasive strong language and drug content, opens Friday in general release.

8:30 pm: Performance Art

It’s a show ... it’s a play ... it’s a performance art carnival. “Fairy” is a mass work in which more than a dozen performance artists take on the decidedly un-festive task of exploring the link between women’s self-hatred and self-loathing among gay men. Inspired by a line in the movie “The Boys in the Band,” the surrealistic performance assaults all senses: from the dark red light to a dense musical score and incense. Come and go-join in or just watch-for any part of the two-hour event, which was conceived and directed by Lauren Hartman and Mark Rucker.* “Fairy,” Side Street Live, 425 S. Main St., 2nd floor, downtown L.A. 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. $9; $7, students. Garage parking, $3. (323) 666-7993.
