Firefighters in Castaic on Wednesday contained the 2,183-acre blaze that destroyed a high school teacher’s cabin and threatened dozens of other homes, authorities said.

The fire, which began about 12:45 p.m. Monday a mile west of the Golden State Freeway, remained under investigation, said county Fire Inspector Ray Rodriguez. He said the cause was suspicious, but officials had not determined whether it was set.

About 850 firefighters from Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties and the U.S. Forest Service fought the blaze, which forced about 100 families to evacuate Sloan Canyon. An outbuilding also was destroyed.
