Selanne Likes His Upward Movement

The trade was on display again Friday night, when the Mighty Ducks faced the San Jose Sharks.

It was the third time this season that Teemu Selanne returned to the Arrowhead Pond, where he helped the Ducks for five seasons. Selanne was traded to San Jose for left wing Jeff Friesen and goalie Steve Shields on March 5.

Who got the better end of the deal is debatable. The Ducks got two solid players and Selanne is no longer in his prime. On the other hand, Selanne had four goals in the Sharks’ previous three games and six in the last seven. He has nine goals and 20 points on the season.

And, certainly, Selanne seems better off, considering the Sharks are first in the Pacific Division while the Ducks are last.

“I think the trade was good for me,” Selanne said. “I was at the point in my career where I needed something new and a fresh start.”

The Ducks recalled center Andy McDonald from minor league Cincinnati and demoted Timo Parssinen.
