Gilmour Finds Scoring Touch

Doug Gilmour scored a power-play goal and Jose Theodore made 31 saves as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, on Thursday night at Philadelphia.

After going winless in five consecutive games, the Canadiens are undefeated in their last four (2-0-2).

Gilmour, who had announced his retirement before signing with the Canadiens last summer, scored his second goal of the season on a backhander in front of the net at 15:43 of the second period to extend the Montreal lead to 3-1.

Gilmour had struggled through the first third of the season, going without a goal through the Canadiens first 29 games before notching his first goal in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Ottawa 6, Phoenix 0--Martin Havlat got his second career three-goal game and Mike Fisher scored twice as the Senators won at Ottawa.

Havlat scored twice in the first and had his third goal--and 14th of the season--with 12:22 remaining in the third.

Detroit 2, Edmonton 1--Steve Yzerman scored with fewer than six minutes left in the third period to give the Red Wings a victory at Edmonton, Canada.

Yzerman’s eighth goal of the season, a deflection past goalie Tommy Salo, broke a 1-1 tie at 14:36 of the third.

Toronto 4, St. Louis 3--Mats Sundin scored 43 seconds into overtime to give the Maple Leafs a victory at St. Louis.

Sundin scored a power-play goal on a two-on-one break with Alexander Mogilny.

Washington 2, Boston 1--Ulf Dahlen scored with 8:02 left to give the Capitals a victory at Washington to end a three-game winless streak.

New York Ranger center Eric Lindros will miss one week with a sprained ligament in his right knee. Lindros was injured with 7.2 seconds remaining in the second period of the Rangers’ 4-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night. He had an MRI on Thursday and was examined by the team doctor. ... Buffalo Sabre forward Erik Rasmussen will miss at least one game with an injured left knee.
