Trio Looks Tough on Surface

Share

Horses with histories of success on the inner dirt track at Aqueduct have continued to do well there since racing began on the surface Dec. 5.

And there are three horses running today at the New York track that have won more than once on the inner dirt.

Delta Quick, a 4-year-old daughter of Virginia Rapids, has won two of six and she’ll be seeking another victory in today’s fourth race at six furlongs. Trained and co-owned by Faustino Ramos, she has never been worse than third in six tries over the inner dirt and is fresh off an easy win last month at 15-1. She is stepping up to the $50,000 plateau after beating $35,000 fillies and mares.

Two races later, Dancing Fool will try for her third win in four starts on the inner dirt when she goes against eight other 3-year-old fillies in the six-furlong dash. Owned by Red Oak Stable and trained by John Kimmel, a high-percentage winner, Dancing Fool was second in her lone defeat at Aqueduct.

In the seventh, another six-furlong race, Look Upon will try to remain perfect on the inner surface. The 3-year-old Carson City filly, who went two for two there earlier in the year, is among 11 3-year-old fillies scheduled to start in the $43,000 allowance contest.

Look Upon broke her maiden on Feb. 1, then came back three weeks later and won again. She was favored in both victories.

Race of the day: The fifth at Hollywood Park is an interesting seven-furlong starter allowance that attracted, among others, Clef Note, an eight-length winner in his first race on the main track; Kid Courageous, who won here earlier in the year; Hot Warsaw Nights, who earned his lone victory sprinting in Inglewood, and the entry of Plum Good Day and Penteliano.

Who’s hot: Aloha Bold. The 3-year-old son of Flying Chevron is perfect in three starts for owner Stewart Madison and trainer Tom Amoss and he’ll make his turf debut in today’s ninth race at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

Who’s not: The field in today’s 10th at Calder in South Florida. The maiden fillies and mares, including the two also-eligibles, are a combined 0 for 122.
