Salary Cuts for Hollywood Writers

Re “TV Chiefs Yell ‘Cut’ on Costs,” Dec. 18: Only 40K? Woe is they! Whiners who get 40K an episode for mostly drivel? I am a member of the WGA and I have walked the picket line with my fellow guild members and listened to them whine about how tough they have it.
Oh yeah, they had it tough. Their car payments were more than my house payment. I was writing a reality show and making $1,500 a week. It was a fortune then and still is.
Don’t you know how insulting it is for a working man or woman to read about some guy whining about only making $40,000 per episode? Especially when the stuff they write would never make anyone chuckle without the laugh track? The reason the ad revenue is down is that the networks air their garbage and then try to pass it off as four-star TV.
As for the hacks who are now whining, my advice to them is get a life; write a movie; write something that means something.
