Coroner’s officials said Monday that toxicology tests would be necessary to determine what caused the deaths of two men whose bodies were found over the weekend in separate, remote locations in Ventura County.

On Sunday morning, a hiker found a man’s body in Sespi Creek near Fillmore. The man was described as white, heavyset, with a 4- to 5-inch beard and long brown hair. He was believed to be in his mid-40s to mid-50s.

The man was wearing a metal belt buckle with the letter “J” etched into the center, deputy coroner’s investigator Mike Feiler said Monday.
