Deputy Treated After Tow Truck Collision
A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy on patrol was broadsided by a tow truck and had to be removed from the crumpled car by firefighters using hydraulic equipment.
Deputy Steven Mayo, 45, was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, hospital officials said.
Mayo was exiting southbound California 23 at Thousand Oaks Boulevard about 6:15 a.m. Friday when his car was hit by a truck driven by Brian Sandhovel, 27, of Thousand Oaks, heading west on Thousand Oaks Boulevard.
The truck may have run a red light, said Officer Steven Reid of the California Highway Patrol. The accident is under investigation.
