Rank Has Its Obligations

The subjective nature of what constitutes a good film, and ultimately the year’s best, is confirmed in the Sunday Calendar section: The “top 10” lists of Kenneth Turan and Kevin Thomas do not share a single film in common (“The Year the Studios Let Us Down,” Dec. 23).
Equally clear, given that Turan gets to pontificate on his choices while Thomas’ are relegated to a numbered list, is the hegemony of “the senior reviewer.”
