Matadors Continue Playing Long Ball

There’s no power shortage when it comes to the Cal State Northridge baseball team.

The Matadors (7-2) continued to swing for the fences Monday with a 17-8 victory over Louisville at Matador Field that raised their season home run total to 24.

J.T. Stotts’ grand slam was his team-leading seventh home run. Jason Gorman had two homers and Robert Smith and Jeremy Hanson also homered Monday.

Hanson and Tim Arroyo each have four homers. Stotts, who had four home runs during a weekend series against Oregon State, leads the Matadors with 19 runs batted in and 44 total bases.

Northridge had 15 home runs during the Oregon State series. The Matadors are averaging more than 10 runs a game.

“A lot of guys are contributing,” Stotts said. “We’re getting a lot of good at-bats and nobody’s cheating themselves.”

The school record for home runs in a game hasn’t been threatened. Northridge had an NCAA Division I record 13 against Fresno State in 1996.

“All we’ve done is gotten off to a good start,” Northridge Coach Mike Batesole said. “Tons of teams get off to a good start.”
