A man was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies Sunday after he allegedly grabbed one of the deputy’s guns, authorities said.

The sheriff’s deputies contacted the man for a drug investigation about 7:20 a.m. near 103rd Street and Western Avenue, said Deputy Steve Jauch. The man, whose identity was not released, ran away.

At one point he turned and confronted one of the deputies, who used pepper spray on the suspect with no effect, Jauch said. The suspect then grabbed the deputy’s gun and pointed it at him, and the deputy then grabbed his second gun and shot the suspect in the upper torso, Jauch said.

The deputy’s partner also fired his gun at the man and struck him in the upper torso. The man was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
