It used to be that you had to know someone hosting a Tupperware party-or, heaven forbid, agree to host one yourself-to buy any of the revered plastic storage pieces.

But the march of technological progress has changed even the way we buy plastic measuring cups and salad spinners: Tupperware can be had online.

The Tupperware company, which also broke tradition when it began selling its wares from carts in malls, offers many of its items at Tupperware.com. You can click through the plastics that store bagels, cold cuts and eggs; the microwave containers designed specifically for soup or leftover pizza slices; the colorful serving sets of plastic luncheon plates or footed dessert glasses.

Sure you trade in-person demonstrations and the chance to talk Tupperware to others. But the site is quick and simple to use, and especially good if you’re replacing any aging Tupperware and know exactly what you want.

Products are shipped priority mail and should arrive in about a week, according to the site. That compares with a recent Tupperware experience through a representative; a colleague at the office was taking orders from a small catalog. Delivery would be in a month, shoppers were told.

What hits home when shopping from the Web site, though, is just what Tupperware costs. A 2-cup plastic measurer for $8, plus shipping? A set of plastic storage containers for $66? Yes, they’re backed by the famous Tupperware lifetime guarantee. But a party atmosphere certainly would help offset the sticker shock.
