Woman Dies in 2-Vehicle Crash in Van Nuys
An 18-year-old female passenger was killed when two 1999 Mercedes-Benz sports utility vehicles collided in an intersection, police said.
Both drivers--Artem Avetisyan, 22, of Glendale and Armen Hakopian, 27, of Van Nuys--were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, said Officer Eduardo Funes, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
Anna Epoya of Glendale was riding with Avetisyan west on Hamlin Street about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when he ran a stop sign and hit Hakopian’s vehicle, which was heading south on Coldwater Canyon Avenue, Funes said.
Epoya, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hakopian is in serious but stable condition at a local hospital, LAPD Officer Jason Lee said.
Avetisyan was also booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, Funes said.
