Bus Crash on I-5 Leaves Two Hurt, Commuters Stuck
Commuter traffic on Interstate 5 came to a halt Thursday night after an OCTA bus struck the center divider near Oso Parkway in Mission Viejo, injuring two people, the CHP said Thursday.
The unidentified driver, who suffered cuts to his head, was taken to San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was unknown, said California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Reeves. A passenger suffered a minor leg injury.
Aboard the bus were two trainees and an instructor from Laidlaw Inc., an Orange County Transportation Authority contractor for elderly passengers, said an OCTA spokesman. The spokesman could not say late Thursday whether a trainee or the instructor was at the wheel.
The 6:39 p.m. crash blocked two northbound lanes for nearly two hours and prompted the CHP to issue a SigAlert.
Caltrans crews were dispatched to clean up chunks of concrete and push the barrier back into position.
