Rock Mills is a cinch to make the all-name team. The Pepperdine catcher might push for all-conference honors as well if he continues to hit the way he did against UCLA on Tuesday.
Mills, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound transfer from Alabama, had four hits and drove in two runs in the Waves’ 6-5 loss. He had only five hits in nine games before the outburst and raised his batting average from .208 to .310.
Mills is replacing All-American Dane Sardinha, who was a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds last summer.
“Rock is a physical guy, very strong,” Coach Frank Sanchez said. “He will get better with experience. He’s getting more comfortable and polished all the time, and he’s got a little thunder in his bat.”
