Bishop Amat 41, Newbury Park 39--The Panthers fell short in their spirited upset bid when Erin Begonia made a three-foot jump shot for the Lancers with 40 seconds remaining in a quarterfinal at Newbury Park.
Newbury Park (21-8) rallied from an eight-point deficit in the first quarter and eventually tied the score, 39-39, on Rachel Hever’s layup with 50 seconds remaining.
The Lancers (25-4) raced down the court and Begonia scored the final two of her game-high 15 points.
The Panthers kept Bishop Amat in check for most of the game, but were frustrated on offense by errant shooting.
Newbury Park made seven of 21 shots in the first half.
Nancy Pabon scored 12 points for the Panthers.
