The Ventura Chamber Music Festival will present Mikhail Voskresensky, an international classical pianist, in concert Saturday in Thousand Oaks. Besides being a top prize winner at numerous competitions, Voskresensky has garnered attention for his interpretations of the great Romantic piano literature. The program will include Schumann’s “Davidsbundler Dances,” Scriabin’s Sonata No. 5 and Rachmaninoff’s Six Preludes from Opus 23.

Folk

Folk stalwart John McCutcheon will perform an installment of the Performances to Grow On series Saturday at the Church of Religious Science in Ventura. The veteran singer-songwriter has long been praised for his ability to merge traditional folk works with his own respected original material. It may be worth the price of admission just to hear the multi-instrumentalist play the hammered dulcimer.

Dance

The Central Coast Near-Eastern Dance Festival being held Sunday in Ventura will raise funds for the nonprofit Central Coast Middle Eastern Culture & Dance Assn. and serve as a clothing drive for the Ventura Women’s Shelter. It’s also a chance to be entertained by professional and student dancers who will perform belly dances, folk dances and traditional music. There will be open-floor dancing and food. Bring donations of clean clothes, toys and kitchenware.

Screening

On Sunday, the Ojai Film Society offers Laurent Cantet’s “Human Resources” (France, 2000), a noteworthy study of class, factory life and the conflict that occurs when a son rises above his father. The film’s star, Jalil Lespert, is its only professional actor. The rest of the cast was selected by Cantet from unemployed people who once held the same kinds of jobs as their characters.
