Justin Fargas, a prep All-American at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame who sat out parts of two seasons at Michigan because of a broken right leg, has transferred to USC, where he will enroll in the spring semester.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound running back, a redshirt sophomore, will sit out next season under NCAA transfer rules and have one year of eligibility for the 2002 season. Fargas moved to safety last season at Michigan.

“We have plenty of time to figure [his position] out, but right now we’d like to see him as a running back,” USC Coach Pete Carroll said Thursday. “He is an exceptional tailback with the speed, instincts and toughness needed to succeed.

“Justin always had a dream of playing at USC, but it didn’t happen the first time around. I’m glad we were able to help him realize his dream.”
