Woman Pleads Not Guilty in Deaths

A La Crescenta woman who allegedly caused an accident that killed two people on the Glendale Freeway pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, authorities said.

Na Hyun Kwak, 26, pleaded not guilty in Glendale Superior Court to two counts of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury to the two surviving victims, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Kwak is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Kwak was driving a Honda Civic when she allegedly rear-ended a Toyota on the freeway Dec. 20. The Toyota burst into flames.

The accident killed two people in the Toyota, David Asatryan , 15, of Burbank, and Noel Nersesyan, 32, of Tujunga. Kwak’s blood alcohol level was measured at 0.18%, police said. The legal limit is 0.08%.
