Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal will showcase techniques from classical ballet, modern dance and jazz tonight at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The company’s repertoire includes mostly original works by such internationally known choreographers as Louis Falco, Vincente Nebrada, Norbert Vesak and Lynne Taylor-Corbett.

Young Talent

New West Symphony will present the 2001 edition of its Discovery Artists program this weekend at venues in Oxnard and Thousand Oaks. The concerts feature young musicians performing as soloists with the symphony. They are: Tiffany Chen, 12, piano, of Moorpark; Sara Jean Ford, 19, soprano, and Elise Goodman, 20, violin, both of Thousand Oaks; Justin Messina, 20, composer and piano, of Ventura; and Katrina Celeste Bobbs, 12, violin, of Granada Hills. The New West Youth Symphony All Stars will also perform. Program includes Ravel’s “Bolero.” Note: Both performances will be preceded at 6:15 p.m. with “JazzFest,” featuring high school musicians.

Museum Exhibit

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley will open “Queen Victoria: Powerful Ruler of a Mighty Empire” Saturday. The exhibit is billed as a celebration of the extraordinary life and times of Queen Victoria. Featured is an extensive portion of the renowned and seldom seen Forbes Magazine collection of rare Victorian treasures, as well as a wide range of art and artifacts from private collections from around the world.

Nostalgia

Tuesday’s nostalgic “Forever Fifties--Vol. V” program in Thousand Oaks will be highlighted by some recognizable names, big band music and impressions of various performers. The bill includes Frank Gorshin, Adrienne Barbeau, the Four Aces, the Coasters and the Horace Heidt Jr. Big Band.
